Bringing Celeste. Casper needed a battery. Huh...imagine that, the classic starts and the MINI doesn't. ;D

I met with the decision makers at the Grand Opening and they are very pro toward having a major presents with our club. They also want to set something up on the website as a paid advertiser. Looks very promising.

I was back over there again today... mine finally got the infamous cold-start rattle. I had video of it making the terrible racket, but they still want to "replicate the problem ourselves." It's a well documented problem and I had evidence that my car was doing it, so why can't they just fix it? So, I'm leaving my car with them next week to hopefully replicate and fix. BMW is stupid to leave this problem out there for the MINI dealers to decide when and if to fix it. As many of the cars that develop the problem, they should recall and replace the poor-designed timing chain tensioners before they cause the whole timing chain assembly to have to be replaced. What's even more frustrating is the stupid cabin filter that the manual shows getting replaced every "full service" or approx 18,000 miles. Mine did not get replaced by Century MINI on the first full service, so MINI Knoxville said I had to wait until the next full service. That time is now, so I told him I want everything listed for a full service, especially the cabin filter. Now he said, "the car does not show it needs the filter until Dec" despite the previous assurance that it would be replaced during the "next full service". And, the BS part is the car does not have an indicator for when the filter needs replaced. I know they are still a new dealership, but unless my meeting goes well with their service manager next week, I am done with MINI, BMW and Grayson. I've bought three Jeeps from Grayson and was disappointed they lost their Jeep dealership. Now they seem to be willing to lose a customer and get bad publicity over a $50 cabin filter covered under the "free 36,000 mile maintenance plan" and the not-so-free $1500 100,000 mile maint plan. The maintenance plan even says that it covers these kind of items as needed. If a cabin filter is dirty and stinks, then I think it needs to be replaced. They haven't even replaced the engine air filter yet and that should be done at least once a year. I did buy a cabin filter and replaced it myself because I got tired of the smell when I turn the AC on. But I'm going to put the old one back in before I take it in. I'm also going to write "OLD" on both filters just to be sure they changed them when I pick it up. I want to keep the filter I bought as a spare just in case it starts stinking before they think I deserve another one. Sorry for the long rant, but having bought dozens of new cars and having worked in the auto industry for 20+ years, I find this level of service inexcusable.

009Mini, Just saw your post. I was at MINI TAKES THE STATES 2010 for a blast of a time. Anyway, I just started last week working at MINI OF KNOXVILLE to help us get the "MINI" message to the dealership. They only opened officially as you know 7/15. I will look into the problems, but being the new kid on the totem pole means I can't make any promises. Sorry for any inconvenience this is causing you, but lets see if I can help.

009, if you haven't gotten your cold start rattle fixed by the dealer and its bothering you, take it to Robert at Eurohaus and tell him you're a part of SMM, I think its about $150 for him to do it. He's a good man if you've never met him.

If you are under warranty, then you should not have to have any out of pocket expense. Eric, the service advisor seemed to feel you are somehow trying to beat the system. This aspect of MINI of KNOXVILLE is still going through a learning curve as in "BMW" mentality and does not get the difference between the two products.
