I love my Mini Clubman, but it is poorly handling even an inch of snow, despite highly rated all-season tires with plenty of tread on them. Please share how well your Mini handles four inches of snow or less, and if you are happy with your experience, please indicate what tires you are using or other measures you may be taking.
I used to live in Minneapolis and I know how to drive on snow, but my Mini is not cooperating. Thanks!

I'm sure the issues you are having is tire related. If your MINI is on the stock tires thats probably the problem. They are expensive and I'd only say they are below average in rain and snow. I know alot of people have really good luck out of the Michelin Bilzzaks for snow, ice and sleet. Many people have a summer set of wheels and tires and a winter set. I know personally I can't afford an extra set of wheels and tires so I just make due with my summer tires. I really just take the chance that we aren't going to get enough snow to worry about where I have to drive. The MINI is a very capable car in the snow, its the tires that are holding you back. Remember that the MINI is FWD and as such handles well in the snow, but tires that are not made for snow will not perform well.

Our snows are typically infrequent and don't last long so we don't usually worry too much....just wait a bit for it to pass. I did load a service tech up with some tools in my MINI (extreme performance summer tires) to get him to a customer with no heat. The MINI goes better than a service van. We did have to walk the last little bit because we couldn't get up a hill. Tires would have made a big difference.

YOHO snow eh While working in Toronto, I swapped out my wife's 15" for my 17" tires. So I ran the smaller tire and it was not a run flat. I got rid of those fast. We had a few really good snows, and had minor problems. I think the real difference is getting rid of low profile run-flat tires. Even in my S, I have gone a size with more sidewall, 50 instead of 45 and dumped the run-flats. It drives much better and is still sporty on the Tn hills. Donna is also correct, a little weight in the back helps on those few days. As my neighbor tells me, wait a day, the snow will melt. He has lived here all his life.
